The UK asylum accommodation system is approaching a significant decision point.
Current accommodation contracts end in 2029, and work is already underway to explore what the next generation of the system could look like. Alongside regional pilots and emerging housing initiatives, this feasibility study is examining whether there are credible alternatives to the current accommodation model that could operate at national scale under real political, financial and procurement conditions.
The study is bringing together evidence from across government, local authorities, housing associations, Strategic Migration Partnerships, charities, investors and delivery organisations.

About the Feasibility Study
The study is exploring three core questions:
How can learning from existing pilots inform future contract design?
What role could housing associations and capital-backed housing play within future asylum accommodation?
What would need to change for alternative approaches to be viable, deliverable and scalable?
The objective is not to advocate for a particular model, but to test what is realistically achievable within the 2029 procurement timeframe and identify the practical conditions required for reform.
